In Memory of a Hero: Jordyn Bonam

Jordyn Bonam lit up the soccer field and the track. Her personality and energy could be felt by everyone around her. The younger sibling of twins, Jordyn loved cheering for her sisters, Danell and Kendall, on the sidelines when she wasn’t playing herself. This little girl made a mark wherever she went.

In July 2011, while Jordyn was getting ready for the Cornhusker Classic Track Meet she started feeling sick. Her parents took Jordyn in to Children’s Hospital for what they believed was heat exhaustion, but found out it was much more severe. She was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called "Pontine Glioma" that had formed a tumor on her brain stem. This type of cancer has a rapid growth rate and was inoperable.

Jordyn endured 6 weeks of radiation treatment at St. Jude’s hospital in Memphis, TN from July to August of 2011. She returned home to Omaha afterwards to continue her clinical trial of chemotherapy. Her mother, Keisha, was by Jordyn’s side during her entire journey. Her father, Dewayne, held down the fort at home while Jordyn and Keisha traveled to and from St. Jude’s Hospital.

Jordyn fought the pontine glioma for 6 months, but it proved to be too aggressive for the chemotherapy. Jordyn passed away this morning, January 26, 2012, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Her fight to beat the cancer and stay positive made Jordyn a hero to all that she knew. Her laugh, her smile, her kindness and her love will always be remembered.

Jordyn, we love you and miss you. Always know that you are in our hearts.

Sincerely,

Your friends and family at Toro

Please help support Jordyn’s Journey. In memory of Jordyn, December 16, 2001 - January 26, 2012. Jordyn was a vibrant, athletic and talented girl that shined at everything she loved to do.

Morgan Westenburg (Toro Bravo) Commits To UNO

Morgan Westenburg

Matt & Hilary On Moe’s Commitment

Ten years ago when Morgan started playing soccer, we never anticipated that she would be playing in college. We are proud of Morgan's athletic accomplishments and how she has grown as an individual over the last several years. There are so many great memories from the 3v3 tournaments in the blistering heat, being gone every weekend, the first plane trip for a soccer game, and of course the six Nebraska State Championships. We are so thankful to the Bravo families, Taylor and Marcus for all the support and friendships.

We are so excited for Morgan and her verbal commitment to UNO. Morgan spent a long time contemplating which school would be the best fit for her to continue playing soccer. After visiting UNO and talking to Coach Klosterman it was an easy decision. We are looking forward to more soccer weekends and watching Morgan compete at UNO.

Morgan’ Comments On Committing

I am so excited to play soccer at UNO next year. I'd like to thank my team and Marcus for helping me build my confidence as a player. The challenging training and competition has made me confident that I can hold my own in college. When Coach K offered the opportunity to play soccer at UNO, I was ecstatic that I get the chance to play soccer at the next level and make a positive impact within my new team. I am looking forward to the new experiences that come with being a student athlete. Go Mavs!

Marcus (Bravo Coach) Comments On Morgan’s Commitment

I am thrilled for Moe and her family.  Morgan is an excellent soccer player and student.  She had many choices on where she wanted to play soccer at the next level and her decision to commit to UNO is one that I feel will be perfect for her.  Don and Ted have an excellent program and Morgan’s addition will only make it stronger.  I look forward to continuing to work with Morgan and to the further success she will bring Bravo.

Welcome to the Toro Soccer Club Web Site

The Toro Soccer Club is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization and has been in existence for over 20 years. We have teams in all age groups, under 9 years through under 19 years of age.

Toro's philosophy and purpose is simple. We strive to provide a framework and organization that will develop soccer players to their full potential through excellent coaching and individual training. Our focus is to develop the female athlete as a total player. From this process comes self-esteem, discipline, determination and teamwork - attributes that extend beyond the soccer field, attributes that can be used throughout life.

If we are to live up to our goals, philosophy and purpose, selecting the best players is not enough. We must be even more selective in choosing our coaches. We can't settle for anything less than the best coaching staff available.

To help parents understand the demands of female athletes, we can provide you with a copy of the Parents Guide to Girls' Sports produced by the Women's Sports Foundation.

Toro Soccer is a member of the Nebraska State Soccer Association in affiliation with the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer.
