Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can you explain the age groups?

  • The soccer season runs from the fall through the spring. The age cutoff is currently August 1st. If your daughter turns 11 on August 1st or after, she will be playing U11(under 11 years of age).  You can review our age chart for further clarification.

2. How much does Toro cost?

  • Registration fees for Toro is set each year before tryouts, depending on age. Uniforms vary in price and can run from as low as $35 up to $100 per player (Uniform, Shorts, Socks). Tournament costs depend on the individual team and how many tournaments they attend. Many teams do fundraising to pay for the cost of tournaments. Trainers might be brought in by different teams and training fees may be required and are not included in your Toro registration fees.
  • A team meeting is typically held at the beginning of the season and tournament schedules and training needs are discussed with the parents and a budget is established.

3. If my daughter never played soccer can she get on a team?

  • It depends on the makeup of the teams in her age group. U9 and U10 teams are formed based on the available players and coaches and not by a tryout process.
  • Select soccer does not begin until the under eleven (U11) age group. Toro holds tryouts after the June State Cup. This usually occurs in the second or third week in June. Your daughter would have to compete to make a U11 or above team. Many times in an age group there may be several different levels of teams starting with the most competitive, Premier. Then there are Division 1 and Division 2 teams depending on the number of girls and available coaches at tryouts.

4. When are Tryouts?

  • Tryouts are held after the local state cup tournament. Tryouts for all clubs are typically held on the second or third week in June. For Toro tryouts dates call the Toro Hotline, 496-3370, or check our website.

5. Where do you practice and how many days do you practice?

  • Practice location and the number of times you practice are all left up to the individual teams and their coaches. Most teams practice two or three teams a week during the season. Through our partnership with College of Saint Mary, we have quality soccer fields available to the Toro teams. But with all that said, it is up to the head coach.

6. How much time is involved?

  • This often depends on the individual team. Practice lengths may vary but the average is between around 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on the age group. Practices may be two or three teams a week. The amount of games also depends on the league and the age group. An average is around 7 to 10 games per season. Teams may decide to go to tournaments locally or regionally depending on the competitiveness of the team. During the winter months teams may play indoor soccer and practice in a school gym or rent a facility. At Toro all these decisions are left up to the individual team.

7. Do you accept boys?

  • No. Toro is exclusively for girls

8. Do you have micro soccer?

  • Toro recently completed it's first spring of micro camps and training.

9. Are your coached licensed?

  • Toro strongly believes and supports the education process provided by the Nebraska State Soccer Association and most of our coaches hold a state coaching license. We also have a number of coaches who have continued their education and hold National licenses. For more information on our coaches and their licenses, click Coaches.

10. If my daughter misses tryouts or if its during the middle of the season can she still get on a team?

  • That all depends on the number of players currently on the existing team's rosters for your particular age group. The best why to find out is to email the coaches of teams in your age group. You can find the coaches emails on the Team pages.
