Coach Mario Zuniga Named 2007 Women's Coach of the Year!

Coach Mario Zuniga was named the 2007 Women's Coach of the year by the Nebraska State Soccer Association.

Mario Zuniga has been coaching for Toro Soccer Club for 11 years.  He has been an active Board member for 6 years, and until June 2007, was Toro's Director of Coaching.  Mario's career with Toro began as Head Coach of Toro Fire (86/87)  and currently coaches Toro Dynamos(U10), Toro TNT(U12) and Toro Magic (U19) and is Assistant Coach for Toro Spirit(U14).  Zuniga is also an Assistant Coach for the women's soccer team at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.

Toro Magic is off to college this year and will return in Spring 2008 to participate in Regionals, which will be played in Rockford, Illinois. Toro Magic will finish it's club participation with a total of 4 State Championships(2003, 2006, 2007, 2008).  Thirteen of the seventeen Magic players continue to play college soccer.
Coach Zuniga holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics.  He also currently holds a USSF National D coaching license.

Mario is originally from Santiago, Chile. He has resided in the United State since 1983. Zuniga has played soccer since he was 6 years old; a goalkeeper in high school, but a field player with his club and amateur teams. He played for "Club Andino" in Santiago Chile.

For three years (1992-1995), Zuniga was the president of Nebraska Mens Soccer League, which at that time, had a total of 30 adult teams competing in Omaha. He played amateur soccer for Omaha Underground and Linoma FC. Today Coach Zuniga continues playing soccer on a coed team with two of his daughters, and other past and present Toro soccer players.
