Toro Spirit 2008/09 U-15
Information Sheet
Toro SPIRIT will again have a competitive team for the 2008/09 season and play in the Premier League of the Nebraska Soccer League. This year at U-15 the girls will be entering High School so there will only be a fall season of league soccer. The State High School rules are that after March 1st, the girls can only train and play games with their High School team until their team is eliminated from the State play -offs. SPIRIT will continue to do winter training after the end of the fall outdoor season and play indoor soccer until the March 1st date in order to get the girls prepared for their High School team try outs.
Soccer is a sport where the player needs to continually “touch” the ball and not just play on a part time basis. That is why SPIRIT will continue to train after the end of league play. Saying that, I realize several of the girls will be playing winter sports and again, as in years past, those girls need to focus on their winter sport as their primary activity. Hopefully, they will be able to train and play with SPIRIT as much as possible over the winter so they are in the best soccer shape as possible for High School soccer try-outs. For the non winter sport players who want to focus on soccer as a primary sport, and have the desire to improve their game, we will make every effort to ensure those players get the exposure over the winter with training opportunities and indoor soccer with TORO events or other opportunities.
Also as in the past, Mario Zuniga and I will continue to coach/train the team. As our current players know, we emphasis skills, playing smart, enjoy playing the game and participating with our TEAMmates. Furthermore we are not asking for 100% commitment to soccer so the girls can participate in other sports and activities. Finally, we strive to keep the costs of playing and training as minimal as possible by minimizing overnight travel and fees. To be honest and upfront with everyone, the fall is very busy for the both of us. Mario is an assistant coach at Dana College and will also coach the Toro U-11 team. My daughter Jesse is playing soccer at Hastings College and, of course, we want to watch as many of her games as possible. Mario and I have coached together for almost 10 years and as in the past we will work things out with our state league schedule and training schedules to ensure the girls get the necessary training and coaching.

Conclusion:
Mario and I are looking forward to working with the girls to get them prepared for High School Soccer. We will expect the girls to do the extra things that it takes to play competitive soccer at the premier level. That is the extra fitness and soccer skills (that they need to do on their own) in addition to attending training sessions and games Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
